The Good, The Bad & The Funky
The Good
Spotify enables voice
Spotify's letting Premium users just talk to the app now. Ask for artists you haven't heard, tell it to make things "more upbeat," ask what a song's actually about, or dig back through your own listening history. It's beta only for now, limited to the US, Ireland, and Sweden; English only; 18+. Still early, but a company of Spotify's size treating voice and text as the main way you browse, not just a search box bolted on, is worth watching.

Why we like it:
This is the "just talk to it" future we were promised back when Siri launched, except it might actually work this time. When someone opens an app and trains them to talk instead of tap, that's voice UX getting normalized for the entire internet, whether Spotify meant to do us all a favor or not.
The Bad
Cloned voices are draining Medicare
Medicare and Medicaid are losing billions to fraud rings running on cloned voices. A New York Post investigation found networks out of Cyprus, the Philippines, and elsewhere using AI voice bots to pose as US healthcare workers.
They encourage seniors to disclose their personal details over the phone and, in one case, convincingly mimic elderly American callers well enough to deceive insurers investigating suspicious claims. One offshore operation alone tried to bill $10 billion using data stolen from over a million patients. The same voice cloning technology that is making customer service smoother is now causing serious harm in the wrong hands, while fraud detection systems have yet to catch up.

Why we like it:
Next time someone in our world gets asked whether voice cloning is actually dangerous or just a scary headline. This is the answer:
Ten billion dollars, one scheme, zero people setting foot in the country. It's a note worth keeping in your back pocket.
The Funky
Ultrasound Tongue Tracking
Aleph built a model that reads speech straight from an ultrasound video of your tongue while you stay completely silent. No sound, no lip movement on camera, just the tongue. It hit a 15.6% word error rate on open-vocabulary speech after a month of work and 50 hours of data, closing in on lip-reading systems trained on a million hours.
Their reasoning: earphones made listening private, so talking to your devices should work the same way, even on a crowded train. Right now it's a probe held under your chin in a lab, nowhere close to a wearable. But it's a genuinely weird, promising direction as "voice interface" has only ever meant audible voice.

Why we like it:
Because it quietly breaks an assumption we didn't even know we were making: that "voice AI" means sound has to leave your mouth.
A tongue-reading ultrasound patch sounds like sci-fi prop nonsense until you remember someone built a working version of it in a month. This is exactly the kind of weird lab thing we want more of in this newsletter.

Oasis
Oasis is a titanium smart ring from Oasis Devices that lets you control your devices through subvocal voice, touch, and motion control: no phone, no screen, and no talking out loud.
It packs a noise-isolating built-in mic, a capacitive touch trackpad with optical tracking (described as the world's first 2D trackpad on a ring), 16 hours of battery on a single charge, and precision haptics. It pairs with iPhone, Mac, and Vision Pro, and has a featured integration with Wispr Flow for dictation.
Why we like it:
it's one of the more credible attempts at silent/subvocal speech as an input method, relevant to voice AI beyond the "talking out loud to an assistant" paradigm, especially for private or noise-sensitive settings.
It's currently available for preorder at $289, shipping for Christmas 2026 (nothing like a special Christmas gift for yourself).

HeyClicky
HeyClicky is a Mac-native AI assistant from Farza Majeed that sits right next to your cursor, sees your screen, and listens when you talk. Ask a question out loud and it walks you through whatever you're working on. Or say "heyclicky agent" and it'll spin up an agent to build, research, or do whatever for you in the background. Under the hood it's a screen vision plus voice input pipeline built on AssemblyAI and ElevenLabs for transcription and speech synthesis, and it connects to whatever app the user is actively working in; think Figma-to-webpage conversion, code editors, PDFs, and browsers.
Easily one of the coolest onboarding experiences we have seen in recent times.
Why we like it:
it's a good example of voice as the ambient control layer for a screen-aware agent rather than a standalone chat window. You just talk to it like an always-on assistant across Figma, coding tools, PDFs, and browsers. No typing, no context-switching. It's also a nice data point on distribution:
Farza built Buildspace into a movement of 100,000+ builders before winding it down in 2024, and that audience carried straight into HeyClicky's early traction

Sardor Davlatov, CEO of NavAI
Building voice AI for Uzbek and the underserved languages of Central Asia
How did you end up in voice?
A few years ago, I was helping a friend book a DMV appointment. I called in, and the agent on the other end took all my details and booked the slot, smooth, natural, completely human. Or so I thought. At the very end of the call, the voice told me it was an AI and asked me to rate the conversation. I was stunned. I'd just had a full, natural conversation with a machine and hadn't even noticed. That moment flipped a switch in me: if AI could do this in English, why not in Uzbek and the other languages of our region? From that day, I started working on voice AI and that's how NavAI was born.
What's your struggle or moment of joy with voice?
The hardest part has been the language itself. Uzbek is a low-resource language, no clean datasets, no off-the-shelf models, nothing to build on. We had to train on thousands of hours of real speech from scratch. But that's also where the joy is. The first time our AI handled a real customer call end-to-end in Uzbek and the caller spoke to it as naturally as they would to a person was unforgettable. Seeing people in our region finally served by technology in their own language is what keeps me going.
Where do you think voice is going?
Everywhere. I think voice becomes the default way we interact with technology. Just as we moved from typing commands to tapping screens, we'll gradually shift from keyboards to simply speaking. Apps will let you navigate and take actions by voice; calling a business will mean talking to an AI that genuinely understands you in your own language, 24/7. Typing won't disappear, but voice will become the most natural interface. And the regions and languages that text-first technology left behind will finally be included.
What's in the “pipeline”
Over the last weeks we focused on a few things… Planning cool events, improving the platform and improving the media layer of the Voice Ai Space…
Here's a quick summary of where we are...
THE EVENTS
To celebrate the 1 year and a million views on the platform, we have decided to ship something a little crazy at the end of August.
It won't be one event; it'll be multiple events happening on the same day across the globe: a truly global community gathering, on the same day, in different countries, with the same passion.

THE PLATFORM
Job board improvement
• We redesigned the browsing experience so that it's cleaner and easier to navigate.
• Always-fresh listings. Jobs sync straight from their source feeds, so closed roles vanish automatically and dead "Apply" links are a thing of the past.
• Faster discovery. New roles get surfaced quicker with way less waiting.
Event Board improvement
• Featured events now get the spotlight treatment they deserve.
• Daily auto-sync to ensure we always provide accurate information.
• Richer event pages with smarter layouts that pair maps and cover images beautifully, plus polished mobile views.
• Optimised past events for faster loads and better discoverability of our full archive.

Founder Profiles on Product pages
For all the founders with organisations within the voice AI space, name & social links are now displayed on the product page.
THE MEDIA
You may have seen that we have improved the Newsroom… We now do:
• Weekly round ups, where we centralise the previous week's news and articles.
• Articles in partnership with brands who have a new release they want to communicate about
• Founder interview
As if this was not enough… happy to be teasing that we are soon releasing a series of videos about Voice AI.
Our goal here is to produce some honest and agnostic content that will allow people who want to learn, either as professionals or newcomers, to get access to a trusted source of knowledge. We will share a link to our first video in the next Voice AI Space newsletter edition ;)
And Voilà, that's a wrap.
